LG Opens New R&D Center in Korea for USD 4 Billion

LG launched a new R&D center in Korea on April 20, with an aim to get ready for the fourth wave of the industrial revolution and create Korea's own Silicon Valley, according to Maeil Business News Korea on April 20. Located in Magok, western Seoul, LG has invested KRW 4 trillion (USD 4 billion, USD1= KRW 1003.3) into this new center and the construction will last four years. The R&D center houses 20 research buildings and will have 22,000 researchers by 2020, up from the current 17,000. The new center will take aim at the conglomerate's future-focused areas, including OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays, automotive parts/components, 5G networks, robots, self-drive technology, next-generation materials and components, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence.
